I have a great big dependable 24 year old Hotpoint microwave oven that I have used every day since I got it in 1985. I love this big size because I can roast a whole 18 pound turkey in it. And I do that every year, in half the time as a conventional oven. Anyhow, this morning I went to heat my oatmeal and the microwave worked for a couple of seconds and quit. So now here is what happens. I push "time cook", then punch in the cooking time, then push the start button as usual. I hear a click inside, but nothing happens. The lighted numbers do count down the time as if it were working. But, no interior light, no fan, no micro-waves, just silence. The interior light does turn on when you open the door. The touch keypad is in good shape / no exterior damage to it. I have never in all these years had to have any repairs done on this microwave. I love this old oven and I really don't want to replace it with one of the new dinky small ones. They don't make 'em like this anymore! So what does this sound like to you? Do you think it could be fixed if I call in a repair person? Let me know if you need more info. Thanks. - Patty

sounds like the magnetron isn't getting power, i would say its more than likely repairable if you want to spend the money to get it fixed, i wouldn't recommend an unqualified person opening this unit, it carry's a charge that can cause death

If you try to look at it yourself, check out this video first. That way you'll know what to watch out for on high voltage items. Better safe than sorry. YouTube - how to fix a microwave

I have absolutely no intention of trying to fix it myself! I just wanted an opinion of what the problem might be.
