Found the e-clip that holds the drive pulley onto the drive shaft of my Maytag washer (MAV6000AWQ) broken. Got another clip but even after aligning the drive pulley and its insert for maximum clearance the clip will not fit into the groove on the drive shaft.

Thank you for your reply. The service bulletin was helpful but it assumes you have a brake removal tool or can install the clip by using a thinner washer. My problem is that even with the pulley and its insert adjusted so the maximum drive shaft groove is showing there is still too little groove remaining (about .010 in. short) to install the clip. Do you see any problem with just sanding/filing of the 10 in. off the drive pulley hub? Can you think of another solution?

I cannot picture exactly what you are proposing, and I am always hesitant about recommending modification to factory parts, but I cannot think of any reason not to do as you suggest. Why don't you wait a few hours though and see if any of the other responders have a suggestion.

Sorry a poorly written sentence, it should have been: "Do you see any problem with just sanding/filing off .010 in. off the drive pulley hub?". But the whole thing is now moot. My brother came over today and with two screwdrivers and four hands we got the clip started and then drove it home with a hammer and punch. Again thank you for taking the time to help me out.
