Symptons. When mw STARTs a 'chirping' sound can be heard from behind the control panel. Then another sound which i cannot describe except it is a sound that should not be made by an electrical appliance. Eventually the LCDs will go crazy and eventually will display FINISHED while the mw continues to cook. I manually STOP. the LCDs are mixed and make no sense. I RESET using the circuit breaker. The mw responds by having every element on the LCD lite.
FIX 1. i replaced the circut board. didn't do any good.
FIX 2. i appealed for help on this forum. this was done in november, and i'm still waiting. am giving the forum one last chance.

this is a good mw, and will be a mother to replace. so i sure would like to fix it. thanks.

Did anything in the microwave behavior changed since the PC board has been replaced?

How long time takes for the LCD's to go crazy from the start?

I need you to post the rest of the model number (three more digits).

Gene.

Gene. thanks for the quick reply. Q1: No Q2: from immediately after pressing START, to NotAtAll. Mostly within 2-4 seconds. Q3: 002. when i replaced the circuit board i didn't know that i could get to it by removing only three screws, so i disassembled the whole mw and was able to check for lose connections etc., and found none.

i can't imagine how much time you must spend with us, and i live in the sticks where even GE can't find, no repair service at all, so your help is much appreciated.

Gene. additional info on Q2. the sound starts within seconds. the lcd does its thing within seconds after the noise. this has been going on since last october, and i believe that there has been 2 occasions when the mw shut down. mostly though the display goes all funny and locks up while the mw continues to heat.

Hi Bob,

Most likely the problem with your microwave caused by the electromagnetic waves leaking out the magnetron and interfering with the electronic control.

The correction is to replace the magnetron.

- The part number for the magnetron is AP2631638

Here are the break down diagrams for the GE microwave Model JVM1631WB002

Gene. thanks again for the quick reply. the mag was replaced 3 years ago after giving 6 years of usefull life. is this what i should expect for the life of a mag? or do i have something else contributing to mag failure? again... thanks for the quick reply.

Bob,

As far as I know from my experience, problems with magnetrons is one of most common problems with GE microwaves for last ten years.

The warranty on the part (if you'll buy it from APP) is one year and I can not predict any time after.
