Rank: Member Groups: Registered Joined: 12/5/2009(UTC) Posts: 4		We have a GE Profile Washer that is leaking water and oil/grease from the bottom, as well as giving off an odor. The machine works fine, just gets water and grease all over the floor! Can anyone help with this issue? The machine sat in the garage for 3 years after the hurricanes in Florida, so there is a possibility of a rust issue as well. Thanks, Sue

That is where I suspect the leak is coming from. If so you will have to replace the transmission. This page will help with that GE Washer Disassembly Guide. You may be able to get by will just replacing the tub seal but in my experience the transmission almost always needs replacing if the tub seal is leaking. If it doesn’t leak from there post back and we will go from there.

You were right - trans leaking - tub seal leaking - does it pay to replace trans and tub seal, or run it till it dies then replace?

Rank: Member Groups: Registered Joined: 3/28/2009(UTC) Posts: 1,648		Well if you don’t care about the water leak. Typically it will leak just a little at first then turn into a larger leak so beware. If you do try to use to more keep a close watch on it. You could try to replace just the tub seal which would repair your leak and is much cheaper than the transmission but it may be a short lived repair.

So, maybe if we just keep doing lots of small loads, instead of the "jumbo" load, it will hold up for a while - at least till after the holidays! Thanks so much for your help!
