Please help! My gas oven will light only sometimes. It is a Whirpool Super Capacity 465 Model #SF377PEGB7. It's 6 years old. If it lights, it usually will bake for a while (maybe 1/2 hour) and then when it tries to ignite again to keep the temp it won't light. After a few failed attempts at lighting (I can hear it clicking as it tries to light) it locks up and quits baking. Very frustrating because it happens randomly, though it seems to be getting worse and more frequent. I can't even use the pre-set time bake option because I can pretty much count on it being off when I get home and the food in the oven still uncooked or half cooked. The cooktop burners work fine. Could it be the oven spark igniter? Thanks for the help.

According to the Whirlpool service pointer cause of the intermittent Bake burner operation is improper air flow to the burner. The correction is to replace the Bake burner with the new modified burner and igniter assembly. - The part number for the burner & igniter assembly is AP3598752 Here are the break down diagrams for the Whirlpool range Model SF377PEGB7Gene.

Thanks so much. I will order the part. Just wondering, how simple is it to replace? I took a look at the part in my oven and it looks like a screw or two hold it in place. Is this something a beginner can tackle or should I call a service tech? Any chance the part comes with instructions? Thanks again!

Remove the oven floor, the flame spreader and the bottom drawer and you'll see how simple it is.

I have the same problem on Model: SF196LEMB - 0. The oven lights but immediately goes out.... Broiler works fine. Is the thermocouple in the igniter? And, can I just replace the part with the thermocouple? Can I do a resistance test on it before ordering the part... ohm range? Do you know the part number? You are awesome!!! Thank you sooooooooo much!!!

Maddie Gene - you are a genius!!! I also drilled more holes and it works great. Whirlpool must've noticed the problem too... the original part was replaced with the part you referenced that has 8 holes. After researching the part cost, your link was the cheapest too. THANKS!!!! SmoocheS!!!!

After drilling the holes, it worked fine for awhile.... now, it won't reach the proper oven temperature. Can I test the thermostat sensors or anything?
Thanks again!

What is the difference between the actual and set temperatures?
