Hope ya all can help with this.

We have owned a Maytag Performa PAVT920AWW for approximately 3 years.

Recently we started hearing a catching sound during the spin cycle. I opened the front of the washer and removed the tub for a visual inspection, nothing seemed out of place.

I reinstalled the agitator, put machine in spin cycle and watched the cycle with top open. The tub spins clockwise but the agitator seems to be trying to agitate. The tub will continue to spin at a low speed if pressure is applied to the bleach cup (holding down the agitator) but the agitator will continue to vacillate back and forth.

I have replaced the timer with no success.

Do I need to reset anything to reset the motor with the new timer or is there something else that could be causing the problem.

Thanks for any help.

Unfortunately with your symptoms the leading suspect is a failing transmission.

Here is the service manual for your machine, and you can examine it to see if you want to do any testing or open up the machine, but in general with this model if the transmission is failing a replacement would be recommend.
