Hello! I have a Whirlpool Side-by-side with ice and water through the door.... last week the ice door 'flap' began moving loosely in the unit - with ice getting stuck inside the door.....then pieces starting falling out...
Upon opening up the face of the unit (thanks to instructions from here) and piecing the unit back together, I see that the hinge pin (looks like a dull nail ) has no place left to clip in... the 'bracket' or hole it used to snap in to has been broken on one side.....
The broken part is a part of the ice/water housing and is not listed on the replaceable parts....
Can the pin be 'glued' somehow into place to hold it in? Can the housing be replaced without replacing the whole door? The unit is only about a year and a half old.... seems terrible to have a big expensive door replaced for a small plastic 'clip' molded into it....
Any help or advice would be appreciated!!!!

I would definitely try. An epoxy made for plastic will probably hold the pin and it won't take much. Don't get any on the hinge and pin where it needs to move. Auto parts stores have epoxy for all applications.

I used epoxy putty to fix the broken clip. So far, so good.

I had the same EXACT thing happen to me. I ended up pulling the ice dispenser mechanism out and taping the ice door shut from the outside of the unit. I have the same question as you. If the broken plastic retainer clip is part of the door, how can the clip be replaced without replacing the whole door? I thought of trying to super glue the plastic retaining clip together, but unfortunately, I do not have the piece that snapped off. The water dispenser is still working fine. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have a Maytag and the "ear" broke and allowed the rod to slip down. This prevented the switch activation and it would not work for anything. I removed the electronic housing and could see all of this.
The plastic housing and the "ear" is all molded together and is set into the foam in the door and cannot be removed. Even if it could be, Maytag does not sell the housing. Their answer was to purchase a new door for 400+ dollars.
I fashioned a repair that is working fantastically and am considering putting together a repair kit with pictures and detailed instructions.
