My washer filled as usual, but when I returned to add clothes, I quickly noticed a burning smell, and saw that the basket was full of water, but was not agitating. I tried a different cycle setting to see if it would agitate but no luck. I changed the cycle setting to see if it would spin or do anything and it did not, but I did hear a humming sound coming from the control panel.

I turned the machine off and unplugged it just to be safe. I came back to the machine about 15 minutes later and tinkered around with the control knob and it work on the spin cycle, on every setting, but still would not agitate and still made the humming noise at the control panel.

Do I have a problem with the control panel or is it the motor, drive belt, gear/agitator problem. Help!!!!!!!! I know I really can't complain, it's been a great product and has never needed work b4, but I'm at a loss, especially with the high cost of repairs these days. Should I try to trouble shoot it further, or should I call in reinforcements??
thanks for any help..........Kelley

Hi Kelly,

Most likely the problem with your washer caused by the motor.

Remove the cabinet, remove the motor (according to this instructions) and check if it will work without a load on the wash (agitate) cycle.

If it would not work or would but will get hot - the motor is bad and has to be replaced.

- The part number for the motor is AP4108781

Here are the break down diagrams for the Whirlpool washer Model LSQ9600LG0

Although rare, you may have a jammed tranny. Turn the tranny coupler counterclockwise and verify agitator moves easily. If ok, check the motor connector pins for a bad/loose pin.

Gene, thanks so much for such a quick response!!!! I have done some tinkering with the machine and it could be several things..........Luckily, as I was on my way to the mail box yesterday I ran into my neighbor and after a quick conversation, would you believe, he is retired from Sears...da da da....da!!! as a repair man.. he's gonna help diagnose the problem and after I order the needed parts, he'll repair it for me (i'll watch and probobly get my hands dirty a little too) all for the low price of one home cooked meal..............thanks again, Kelley
