Rank: Member Groups: Registered Joined: 11/21/2009(UTC) Posts: 1		We initially had a lot of frost on the coils, even on the fan. We replaced the defrost timer and that problem was solved. We then replaced the temperature control for the freezer and still have too little cooling in both the refrigerator and freezer. The compressor still runs OK and we are still cycling through defrost. Is there a limit switch somewhere that should be replaced or could the defrost thermostat cause this problem?

Check to be sure the evaporator fan is running. Also the compressor fan and that the condenser coils are clean. Remove the evaporator coil cover and check the coils. If heavily iced/frosted over then you still have a defrost problem. Check the defrost thermostat and the defrost heater. If the compressor is running and there is no cooling at the evaporator coils. then the compressor could be toast or you may be out of freon. If you only have frost on one section of the coils (usually where the freon enters the coils), you could be low on freon. Either of the above is usually the end of the unit as finding a freon leak,repairing it and recharging the unit is fairly expensive.
