Hi Harpreet,

I have the exact same model and same problem. My fifth (rightmost) one is the problem. Can you tell me how you opened the Glass Maintop to replace the harness switch? I already unscrewed the two holddown brackets underneath and felt some movements but I was unable to lift the glass top  using the pry bars. I know that it has some kind of adhesive strips to hold down the whole thing but I could not figure out how to open the glass top. Are there any other screws/brackets you have to remove? Also, did you have to unattach the gas pipe?

Any insight/instruction would be very much appreciated.:p

Thanks,
CC.

I can't figure out how to do it. How do I remove the top where the controls are? I removed the knobs and I don't see how to remove the protective cover. I removed the cooktop mostly from the counter and I can see a couple of screws on the fron - will this allow access to the harness?

That is the problem. I did not see any other screws other than the two that hold down the whole unit from underneath. I could feel that the whole unit is a little bit loose but could not lift the glass. I was afraid of breaking it if there were other screws or something.
I don't know how Harpreet could do it. I tried to search all the place on the internet but could not find any instruction.

Anyone can help, please do....

Thank you!!!

I have a GE JGP963SEC2SS ...but I think I figured it out. I have to take the burners out first. Each burner has two screws. I need to remove all five burners and then the entire stainless steel will come off?

CC,

You have to remove all burners and there are two screws under each burner. Remove them and all knobs to remove the glass top. As you can see on the diagram, there is a double side tape which secures the glass top to the burner box. You have to cut it using a sharp blade.

Hi Gene and Avanvaler,

Thank you very much for sharing and the instructions:) ;) . I saw the two screws for each burner. I will try them tonight. One question: as Gene mentioned that there is a double-sided tape to secure the glass to the box. After I cut it with the sharp knife, should I replace it? Is it called "foam tape" (number 199 on the diagram, part# AP2016094) or "tape foam" (number 200 on the diagram, part# AP2634968) ?

Again, thank you both very much.

CC,

I believe this is the same tape and difference between these two part numbers is only length of tape. I'm not sure how long exactly they are.

It's better to have it, but this is not a critical issue as long as you have not removed the old tape.
