When you try to start a load and set the timer it will just make a clicking sound on and off real fast. The machine turns on for a split second and the motor starts but turns right off and on again like you where turning a light switch on and off as fast as you could.

It also has another problem that may or may help. Sometimes the washer will stop at the same spot on the dial and you have to come in and touch the dial lightly and it will come back on.

If the machine will otherwise operate correctly then it would seem there is no mechanical problem with the washer and that the problem is in the timer.

You will need to change it out to determine if the timer is bad. Here is the part.

Part number: AP3175368

I understand your desire for more certainty, you hate to spend the money and not get it fixed.

Let us know how it works out and if that fixes it.

Installed timer still doing the clicking. Sometimes if I move the fabric select button while it is clicking to something different it will start working right. Can you post the repair manual for this model?

I would have tested things before ordering expensive parts. These plastic timers are very reliable unless very high currents go through them due to a bad motor, AP3125983.
I would pull the motor and try running it. It helps to put an amprobe on the washer black input wire. If it draws way over 8 amps, you have a bad motor. If no meter available and it does the same thing, I would replace the motor.
If the timer still "sticks", I would find a opening in the timer near the switch assembly and spray it with a CRC non-residue cleaning spay while turning the timer.
Good luck, keep us informed.

Sounds like a motor cutting off and on. I would pull the outer cabinet and feal the motor when it is clicking, most probably a bad motor.

What I'm I feeling for? How do I replace the motor if needed? I checked the capacitor and it seems to be ok.

Pull the motor and check for lateral play in the bushings, probably bad.
