My dryer is almost 4 years old. It's been acting kinda funny lately. First, the light sometimes flickers on/off. I thought I just needed to replace the bulb (it would turn on if I tapped on the cover a bit). Then, it sometimes continues to run when I'm using the automatic dry settings -- it won't stop unless I open the door.

Finally, yesterday we started it on timed setting and it started, but then stopped. Now, I'm getting NOTHING when I hit the start button.

What should I check first? Thermal fuse? Can I tell if it's bad by sight and replace it (along with thermostat)? I'm sure the vent needs to be cleaned out too.

Thanks for any advice!!

Bumping up -- any ideas?

We tried bypassing the thermal fuse (connecting wires together) and the dryers runs fine. We replaced the thermal fuse and high limit thermostat, however the next 2 cycles took forever to dry and then it stopped working again. (however, if we connect the wires together, it does run)

Any other thoughts as to what this may be and how we can fix it? Really don't have the money to buy a new unit at the moment.

Thanks.
