I have the above unit that has been working for the past six years. Lately, the unit will just shut off, what would cause that to happen?

I have the same Kenmore unit, the same age with the same problem. Did you find the what the cause is/was?

I have the same problem with mine. I've found that if you disconnect the humidity control knob on the front, it works fine, but you can't adjust the humidity or turn it off without unplugging it. If you replace that control knob, it should work properly again.
