My 2 year old stack washer will wash but will not rinse or spin (cycle). Water cannot rinse or drain. Also, manually advanced timer but nothing happens.... No motor noise. Any troubleshooting advice is greatly appreciated. Annie

Hi Annie,

Most likely the problem caused by the lid-lock switch (#50 on the washer top cabinet break down diagram).

The new switch comes with the installation instructions.

- The part number for the lid-lock switch is AP2108159

Here are the break down diagrams for the Frigidaire laundry center Model FEZ831AS1

I'm glad Annie got hers going. For others who happen on this site with the same problem. You may be able to fix this symptom at no cost. Mine did the same thing but the switch was fine. Here's how you can check

Take a pencil or other non-metallic object, then depress the paddle next to the washer tub. It's a slotted hole that the lid lock catch on the washer lid goes into on the right. If you can depress the paddle enough to make the washing machine work normally, i.e. spin, then the bracket the switch is on is likely bent a bit. If you can make it work by depressing the paddle farther than the lid catch can, you can fix it without replacing the switch. Just don't press the paddle too far. You should be able to hear the micro-switch close with a very quiet "click." If the switch closes and the tub doesn't spin, the switch might need replacing. If you have a VOM meter, you can check the two switch screws for current, using the cabinet for the ground. If the switch is definitely closed and one screw is hot and the other not, the switch needs to be replaced.

Open the cabinet as you would to replace the switch. Unplug the laundry center to prevent getting shocked. Press up on the switch and bracket assembly to re-bend the bracket upwards a bit. One could also remove the switch bracket and switch as an assembly, then bend with a couple pairs of pliers. It should be at a 90° angle, or just a bit less. Re-install and you're good to go.

I suspect the years of the spring pressure inside the switch, pushing the bracket away from the lid could cause it to straighten out a bit.

You might want to use the pencil test as an expedient to get the washer tub spun and drained so moving the unit is easier. You'll just have to hold the paddle down a couple minutes until the timer ends the spin cycle.
