The control panel looks normal (lights on etc.) but when you push any button it shuts off. When you push any button it comes back on. That's all it does.
Prior to this it was beeping oddly for several weeks but never showed any trouble codes.

I followed the directions on 6-4 but when I pressed any button it caused it to look ok (lights on etc.) and they all went out when I released after 3 seconds. If it's the control board, which one is that? The User Interface Assembly or the Machine/Motor Control board? Thanks

The problem with inconclusive tests like this is you cannot tell. I suspect it is the machine/motor control board, but you are going to have to replace it to see if that is the problem.

I just changed the machine/motor control board and no change. Any ideas?

The user interface or the wiring harness become the next suspects. I hate to for you to be in the "replace and see if it fixes it" mode but if you cannot get good diagnostics that what you end up doing.

I replaced the user interface board and it worked. Just to see if it was only that board, I put the original machine/motor control board back in and it didn't work. Replacing it with the new board and it works ok now. As to why they failed the only thing I can think of is a power surge. To protect it in the future I plugged the washer into a surge protector. It's a $20 protection vs. $247 to replace both boards. Thanks for all your help.

Well, interesting that both items would be defective. Glad you got it up and running, more glad you did not waste any money, really glad you were able to do this yourself and save hundreds from a service call and thanks for the update.
