I got a bit of info by hi-jacking another thread. It got me heading for the t-stat control as it had burnt contacts so I orderd another. The fridge was running till cold but then would not kick on again unless I turned the control on/off to cycle it.
I started this thread because I got the control to allow contact again by a bit of tlc. (it still will be replaced, I just wanted to get it going to test the other parts) I read the sticky but still am asking for confermation on my findings.
The heater has continuity -means good yes?
The bi-metal t-stat has continuity while froze,none when warmed up. I can actualy here it snap when it switches. - good?
Fans are running.
coils are clean.
I have not tried the defrost timer as not sure turning the screw(thing) would render it useless...can this be tested and reset?
Just want to make sure I only need the control t-stat and not more parts.

Yes

Yes you can turn the timer cam. Most of them have a ramp with a flat side so that a screwdriver will only grab if turned in the correct direction. Trying to force it in the wrong direction will screw it up.
There is no need to reset it. It should finish the defrost cycle and restart the fridge compressor and fans.
If it does this and the heater heats up odds are good that it is OK |

You are welcome.
I am pretty sure that the defrost will check out OK for you as usually it will not defrost at all once something fails and the only way to get the unit up and running again is to do a manual defrost. |

OK , got my new t-stat control today.
Its all up and runnin again.
Before i go crazy and put food back in it. What are the "normal" temp
settings for freezr and refridge sides? I'm checking w/ a thermometer to
make sure its working in the right temp range.
Reason I'm asking is the t-stat has an adjustment screw--these preset?
I'm sure I will just have to adjust the knobs over time to get the temps to my liking again...frozen cheese,fury sour cream, and the icecream so hard it could be a jack stand for my pickup truck.

Yes it is preset/calibrated at the factory so you should not touch it.
Refrigerator Temps
Freezer: 0 to 5 degrees (F)
Fresh Food: about 38 degrees (F)
Measure the temperature by placing a cup of water with a cooking thermometer into the refrigerator for about 2 hours or more.
To test the freezer, substitute alcohol or cooking oil. |
