I have a Maytag gas dryer. Under power and when I turn the drum manually a loud squeaking noise comes from the blower fan and motor. I removed the belt from the drum so I could turn the blower by hand and I still get the squeaking. Could the motor be bad or is it the blower fan?

I have accessed the blower, removed both clamps. Part of the blower hub was broken into pieces. The blower will not slide off the shaft. Shouldn't it slide right off? It appears that hub has wedged itself onto the shaft.

Update. I have been able to remove the blower. When I turn the motor shaft the squeaking appears to be coming from inside the motor. Please, anybody have any suggestions?

Go to #10 and then #26 and then Check this out

Try to move the motor's armature if there is slop in the bearings the motor needs replacing.

If you try this use a 3in1 or sewing machine oil. Do not use WD40 ad it will not last very long.

Thanks for the info Denman. If there is no "slop" in the drive shaft do you think oiling the shaft and bearings would be enough? I would hate to put it all back together and a couple of days later have the motor start doing the same thing. I'm not wondering if I should go ahead and bite the bullet and replace the motor.

Sorry I won't give advice on this as you can never tell how long it will last.
I would apply a drop or two directly on the shaft/bearing, then give it a spin if it is nice and quiet and spins freely I personally would just oil it but then I am cheap and retired so have the time to pull it apart again if things do not work out.

Thank you for your sound advise. I was able to get the motor loose from the back of the blower housing and discovered the squeaking bearing. After a few doses of 3-in-1 oil, it's good as new. At least for now. Thanks again.
