i have a whirlpool gas dryer GGW9250PWO that i purchased in 6/05. i had plumber stack dryer on top of washer using stacking kit part# 8541503 at the time of installation. i haven't had a problem till now.

i scheduled with a repair company recommended by whirlpool and the technician came. my complaint was that there was a burnt smell after the dryer was on for about maybe 10 minutes. the tech told me that it was burnt lint and he began taking out the 2 small screws that were in the bottom front cover of the dryer. and he stopped and said he cannot pull the cover out and cannot work on it because i glued the bottom of the dryer to the washer with some kind of adhesive. and he cannot work on it unless i remove the adhesive and he is able to lift the dryer.

first, there is no adhesive. the dryer is secured to the washer by the kit that i purchased along with the washer dryer from whirlpool.

the question now is: is it true that you cannot just pull out the bottom front cover without lifting the dryer and is it the owner's responsibility to have to get a plumber to remove the bolts that stacked and secured the washer dryer together before a tech will work on the problem?

i paid the tech $65.00 just to hear that he cannot do it. please help. whirlpool does not have an answer either and i already called them 3 times.

Yes, it is. The bottom access panel has to be slid down in order to remove it.

If he does not want to mess with it and take over responsibility for a possible damage then yes, he can pass it over to an owner. Most of technicians would not do it because they will loose this job. You should ask him when you paid him $65, for how many days you would not have to pay it again if you'll separate the dryer and washer and call him back.
