I have a Kenmore dryer and I think the vent is not venting the hot air. Would this cause the heater element to burn out?

Is there a reset button for the heater element? How do I know if the element has gone out? Is it easy to replace?

Thanks,

James

Cannot find anything using the given Model Number.
Usually Kenmore's have about 9 or 10 numbers as a model number.

Would this cause the heater element to burn out?
No but it will cause the thermal fuse to blow.
Often it is a white device mounted on the blower wheel case.

Is there a reset button for the heater element?
No

How do I know if the element has gone out?
Easiest way is visually looking to see if it is broken.
Best way is with a meter. It should measure around 10 ohms.
Also you can check the fuse with a meter, should be 0 ohms.

Is it easy to replace?
Not difficult but depends on your mechanical ability.

First flip the breaker on/off slowly. Sometimes you can loose half the line without actually tripping the breaker. This will cause the unit no to heat.
Better yet check it with a meter at the plug.
L1 to L2 should be 240 volts AC
L1 to Neutral and L2 to Neutral should be 120 volts AC.
Be careful 240 volts is lethal.
Always unplug the dryer when working on it.

Here is a good site with basic dryer repair help.
