My daughter's GE Tri Clean Quiet Power 2 dishwasher runs on and on. When she closes the door, and restarts, it picks up again in the same cycle, and goes on and on. Any ideas? Does the control pad need to be replaced? Thanks.

I could not find any info on this unit. Trying to find info on a GE is a pain. Models with a number close to this unit's have a heated wash and a turbidity sensor. Both of these can extend a wash cycle. Has this been the case with this unit since day one?
Check that the water entering the unit is at least 120 F. Sometimes running the hot water tap till you get hot water up to the sink will solve or at least help you trouble shoot.
Check the operators manual to see what lights should be on when, this may help you troubleshoot it. Check that the heating element is coming on. Try a cycle without water temperature boost to see if the wash times are OK. Try a cycle without turbidity sensing to see if the wash times are OK.
It could be the control board but I would lean towards a problem with either temp boost or turbidity.
Take a look under the unit to see if the tech sheet is there, often taped to the back of the kick plate. |

The dishwasher has not been this way since day 1. She has been using it since May, with no issues until last week, when it ran for 9 hours... overnight, and flooded the floor. I checked the pump, drain, etc, and all that is fine. She bought the house with the dishwasher in it, so she has no owner's manual. But, it is quite new. Also, the lights on the front, showing Rinse, wash, etc, seem to go back and forth. She cannot cancel, or reset the cycle. Thanks, Ken

I can find the operator manual on the GE site in "Service & Support" for a GSD5910D00AA. Download it, it may be a close match. http://www.geappliances.com/when it ran for 9 hours... overnight, and flooded the floor. I checked the pump, drain, etc, and all that is fine. She cannot cancel, or reset the cycle. This does not sound good. That is flooded the floor may be a separate problem. The machine should have a float assembly in the tub which should kill power to the fill valve so the unit does not overfill. It does sound more complex than just a heater or turbidity problem. The control board could be the problem but I hate wild guesses but have no tech info on the unit to be able to narrow it down. I will try again to find some info but do not hold out much hope. Hopefully someone else will jump in who has experience or the reqired information. PS: I also hate GE since they keep all tech info a secret but I guess it keeps their tech's busy. |

Thanks. I am leaning towards something wrong with the control panel, that traps it in a cycle of repeating the wash and rinse over and over. I will download the owner's manual and see if anything can be learned from it. Keep trying, I am having no luck finding much info. I have fixed other dishwashers in the past, and have always found what the problem was, but, this one doesn't have much to use for reference. Ken
