The agitor seems loose, how do I get to the nut that holds it on to see if it needs tightening

It just pulls up. Put your fingers under the agitator and pull it straight up. Some time it can be very hard and you may want to use a special agitator removal tool. - The agitator removal tool Part number: AP2614096
