It's been almost 2 years since I last replaced the tub drain pump (part No. AP2039463) and check valve (part No. AP2617344). Starting last week some water always remains in the tub after a Wash or Rinse cycle. I completely disassembled the dishwasher's discharge water loop, including the drain line to the sink, and found no blockage. I removed the drain hose from the connection to the kitchen sink and put it in a bucket, filled the dishwasher and selected drain, the water does comes out but not completely by the time the dishwasher shuts down. I decided it was the pump (again) so yesterday I replaced both pump and check valve again - same problem!! I looked at the diagrams again - the only item I haven't replaced is this one

GE Body valve &, part number: WD22X10025

Looking at the picture it appears that there is another check valve on this "Body Valve" that could be restricting the flow. Is there a check valve in this assembly? Is there anything else that could cause this problem?

Here are your parts

It is probably the Piston and Nut , Item 564 in the "Body Parts" section.
It is basically a spring loaded valve.
It just unscrews from the "Body Valve".
Remove the slotted cover at the inside back of the tub to get at it.
It is not that it restricts the drain flow but if it does not seal correctly during the drain cycle it allows some water to flow back into the tub instead of out the drain.

Is there anything else that could cause this problem?
Could be but this is the most common cause.

Thanks for the quick reply. I replaced both item 564 and 325 yesterday with brand new pieces and the problem remains.

I'm stumped.

So now the clutching at straws begins.

I am assuming you have already checked the main pumps sump for debris.
If you look down into the main pump you will see a rubber gasket (don't know what else to call it) in the middle of the flapper valve. Check to make sure it is there.

When I replaced the drain pump (item # 325) I checked for debris in the sump (item # 505) that feeds both the main pump and the drain pump and found nothing. When I inspected the new drain pump before installing it I didn't see a rubber gasket. The inlet and outlet of the drain pump did not have a flapper valve. Can you be more specific as where to look for this rubber gasket?

Is there a check valve in the discharge line of item # 560? From the picture it appears to have something installed in this line.

I recall when the dishwasher was working correctly the drain pump would run out of water (ie: the tub was completely empty) before the timer shut down the drain pump. Please confirm that all water should be removed from the tub.

Thanks for your perseverance.

It is really not a gasket but I do noy know what to call it.
Look in the "Motor pump"section
Click on the picture for Item 310 "GE pump" picture
A new page will open with better views
Take a look at the center picture, clicking on it will enlarge it.
Take a look down the throat
It looks like a little black shaft sticking out the center ♦of the flapper

Cannot say for sure but I do not think so. You have basically replaced everything in the pump out system perhaps this piece is clogged with crud or something else that I am not aware of. I think I would replace it as a last resort. It is not very expensive and by now you have probably checked everything else at least twice.

Please confirm that all water should be removed from the tub.
I have a unit which does not include the separate pump out pump and it leaves about 1/4 inch of water at the bottom of the tub. Cannot say for sure what yours should leave but can tell you that there should be water in the sump because if you run the pump with the sump dry the bearings/seals will burn out.

Thanks for your perseverance.
Not a problem if nothing else I am stubborn.

Thanks for your response - returning home from business trip on Friday. I'll order item # 560 and install it over the weekend and inspect the main pump while it's all apart. Is this flapper valve to stop water flowing to the upper shower head (item # 570) when the tub is draining? I find it odd the the main pump (item # 310) continues to run when draining the tub, but it's been that what since new.

No worries - with all these parts we should have a "like new" dishwasher soon!!

Yes and redirect it out the drain. In older models which use the same pump they did not have a drain pump at all. The main pump did all the wash and drain. I have no idea why they added a separate drain pump, must have had problems with some installations.

Perhaps someone who knows will jump in and enlighten me.

denman;
Let me start by saying that I don't believe in "self healing" equipment, however, the dishwasher has been working perfect since 10/20/2009. When going through the entire wash and rinse cycle no water remains in the tub, and an insignificant amount of water remains if you only use the Rinse Cycle. I tested the unit all weekend and the problem appears to be solved – I can only guess that some blockage must have been dislodged over the past week.

I am not going to chase this issue any further (until it happens again) – Thanks for your help in analyzing this problem.

I also do not believe in the above but sometimes it does happen and the problem never reoccurs.

I also strongly believe in:
If it ain't broke don't fix it.
and
Don't mess with success.
