The knob on my Maytag Intellidryer must be twisted around a couple of times to get the heat setting I need to start the dryer when I push the start button. The arrow on the knob does not match up with the actual setting I am trying to use. I can easily pull the knob off and there does seem to be a slight crack on either side of the part that goes over the piece of the smooth metal screw that sticks out of the dryer, but would that be enough to screw up the timing or could it be the actual timer???

It is probably the timer knob. Try to determine the correct orientation of the flat part of the timer knob shaft, and then turn it with a pair of pliers and see if it engages the cycles as it should. If it does replace the timer knob.

Occasionally you have this problem when the timer has broken away from the console, but this is more of problem with GE machines.

Thank you. It was the timer knob. The problem I am having now is that when installing it I cannot get it to slide all the way down over the screw, so it is sticking about a half inch up from where it should be. It still works, but it doesn't look right. Any idea how to make it slide down without breaking it.
There seems to be a thin insert in the hole that the original did not have.I'm guessing Maytag figured out there was a problem with these knobs cracking so easily and this is their correction.

Well, good that you got it fixed and at an inexpensive price, but I know you want it to look good too.\

I don't know about that particular knob, but sometimes there is a ferrule or piece that stays on the shaft. Other than that I cannot think of a reason why the new one should not go on like the old, but it may be something you will have to live with.

Thanks for updating us, glad you got it going.
