We have a Maytag Performa washer that is just over 10 years old. It has served our large family well, but recently began giving us trouble.

One small load of heavy laundry sent it walking off-balance across the floor, and since then, it has leaked for about every load.

I am willing to do anything to have this washer back to it's non-leaking self. We have rebalanced it (adjusting the front legs and "dropping" it on the rear legs). That did not solve the problem.

What do I do next?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

You have to find the leak.
Perhaps it is just something came loose when it became unbalanced.
Open it up and take a look

I had my husband tear the machine apart.. and he found the leak was coming from the back right (when facing the machine) corner, where the spring there hooks onto the tub (near the drain line, he thought). When the machine is on, it is a constant leak down the spring. If I knew how to post pictures on here, I would. Does that point me in the right direction to figure out what part needs to be tightened or replaced? Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

So... is the problem that it continues to walk, or just that it leaks?

When does it leak? Only when it is operating? What part of the cycle?

First off check that the hoses are firmly connected. After your washer tried to take a 'walk', The hoses could have been the only thing keeping the washer from walking right out the door. The connections could have been loosened if the hoses were pulled taught. Re tighten, use a pliers, gently, if needed. From your description, this might not do the trick, but it is worth a shot as it's easy and costs nothing.

If one of the supply hoses has little tear, it would leak all the time as they are always under pressure. If it only leaks during the fill operation, the leak is at the fill valve or beyond. If the drain hose has a tear in it, it will only leak during the drain part of the operation. You may need to run the washer though it's entire cycle while watching what's going on behind the washer. Get a flashlight. Be careful if you sit on your washer. Some butts, like mine might put a permanent dent in the lid.

Where is the leak in relation to the fill valve?
