I have a Maytag stackable washer/dryer combination that has been making noise recently when starting...kind of a growling noise when the start switch is pressed.

Sometimes the dryer would turn off soon after starting it and I would have to restart it.. It would restart and complete the cycle.

Today, the dryer growled but wouldn't start. Then after trying several times to start it, it wouldn't even growl

The ignitor and drive belts have been recently replaced - so that shouldn't be the problem. Any other ideas? I was thinking the switch might be gone.

It might be the push to start switch and you can replace it inexpensively to either fix the problem or rule it out. Here is the part.

I think a more likely cause of your problem is the motor starting to fail.

Try this. With a friend to help, open the door and have your friend depress the door switch and then press the push to start switch. Turn the drum with your hand and see if it starts up. If it does, the motor is probably bad.
