Is there a way to bench test the compressor on my frig? It has three prongs. The top is the overload. Should'nt I be able to put power (pos and neg) to the two bottom prongs to get the compressor to kick on, or not kick on if it is bad? Thanks

No this will not work you need to have a start relay. There are two motor-windings in the compressor: start winding and run windings. They are connected in the center at the common post that the overload is connected to. The compressor needs both windings to start then the start relay drops out the start winding just after the compressor starts.

You can check ohms across the three posts and to ground. If you get continuity from any of the three posts to ground the compressor is bad. If any of the windings are open the compressor is bad. The main board or the start relay is far more likely to be your problem. What exactly is the refrigerator doing?
