Hi,
Need some advice please-freezer frosts up and fridge stops working because it is clogged with frost/ice. The ice is not solid and when I defrost it and start it back up again it is ok for a couple weeks and the cycle starts over.

Have ordered a defrost timer as it is the cheapest item and will replace it but need a assembly drawing to take it apart without messing something up as well as use it to do any other future repairs.

Please let me know if I am on the right track replacing this timer and if there might be something else wrong.

Thanks and have a good day.:p

Here are your parts
Replacement parts for KENMORE 25359682993 | AppliancePartsPros.com

Try searspartsdirect for actual pictures of where the parts are etc.

Have you tried forcing a defrost by turning the defrost timer cam until the compressor fan and evaporator fan goes off. You are now in defrost mode.
Does the defrost heater get hot. Be careful do not burn your fingers.

If it does get hot then the timer is probably your problem.

If it does not get hot then the defrost thermostat or the heater itself is shot. Note this does not totally rule out the timer as it's contacts may be shot.

Best way to check is with a meter. The heater should have continuity
usually around 20 ohms.
The defrost thermostat should be closed (0 ohms) when frozen. Note it opens just above freezing.

Thanks a lot for the help-I will check the defrost timer. Have one question though-I see two parts called a thermostat but none called a defrost thermostat-can you tell me which one it is so I can check it? The part numbers are AP4374171 and AP2132718. Thanks again for the help and have a great weekend. Barb

Cannot say for sure as I do not have actual parts layout but I would say it will be the AP4374171, clipped onto the defrost coils.
