FIXED IT!!! CHECK POST 3 FOR THE SOLUTION!!!
ok, so my washer is stupid...
It worked great for a while...now the stupid thing wont turn on. It has power...I can lock the control panel by holding down the end cycle button. The red light turns on when I do that.
When I push the control on button, it does nothing.
It kinda did it a while back, but all I had to do was open and reshut the door or wiggle the basket thing that you put the clothes in...then it was fine for a while. Today it does nothing. i did a load of laundry, put it in the dryer, went to do another load...and now nothing.
PLEASE HELP!!
I am not an insanely mechanical person, so please try to keep answers somewhat simple or describe what you are talking about lol.

In case someone else has the same problem as me. It was a simple fix.
Some how or another one of the wires in the TOP of the machine, the ones that go from the Central Control Unit (CCU) to the control panel came out of the little holster thing that holds it away from the cover of the basket. It sat on that cover and when the machine vibrated from spinning it just wore that wire out and ended up splitting it in half.
I found someone that had the same problem as me via google and that was their problem also, so I am going to guess that at some point someone else will have this problem too!
All we did was take the top cover of the machine off via the 3 screws in the back...they are star like screws. (torx maybe?) Take the top off and look for loose wires. The one that I had a problem with (the other guy also) was a flat gray cord made up of multiple wires. We just spliced the broken wire back together and the machine worked like a charm!!!!
I really hope this helps someone, ANYONE along the way as I know that these machines are expensive and the parts are too!!

I had the same problem as yours and had been searching posts for days. I replaced the CCU with no luck and was about to scrap the whole machine when I found your post. I too could lock and unlock the controls, but nothing else, so the broken wire idea made sense. I checked the ribbon wire to the front control interface and sure enough it was broken. I spliced it and it works fine. I can't believe how badly Whirpool routed those wires so that the vibration would wear them out and make them break like that. Thanks again for saving me a fortune!

Just wanted to say thanks a bunch for the info. I have a whirlpool duet that would not start up a few months ago took the top of moved some wires checked the plugs on the ccu, put the top back on pluged it in and it worked. Tonight I had the same problem, tried everything I did before and no luck. I also search the net came across this forum and read about the wire problem. Sure enough checked my wires for the ccu and the front panel and it was wore in two. Thanks again, I was getting ready to buy a ccu.

This worked!!!! We actually fixed the machine, and if we can do it anyone can. I can't believe that it was so easy and that Whirlpool doesn't let us know how to do it. This site saved my day. Thank you so very much.

One wire on the gray ribbon cable had been worn through. I repaired the break and the problem is fixed!
It looks like the cable was supposed to be routed in some plastic harness clips but had fallen out and was laying across the drum. I routed the cable through the harness and added some electrical tape to hold it in place.
Thanks so much for the tip, I completely missed this on my first look and was getting ready to replace the (expensive) CCU!

That's a great tip about the tape. We have to fix it every once in a while, so we'll tape it the next time. thanks!

we have been having issues recently with our machine, which turned out to be clogged sensor tube that needs to be flushed and errors out F02 and we thought oh no not again! this time we had no power whatsoever! THANK GOD that she wrote that down as that is exactly what happened to us. make sure to use electrical tape to secure the new wire.
