Washer fills with water but won't agitate. I bailed out the water, disassembled the unit and the motor purrs when not under load. I checked the pump, turns freely. The clothes basket turns in one direction fine. The motor does hesitate in one section as I rotate the timer control before kicking in fine.
The motor is $270 bucks and I don't want to make that investment if something cheaper could be the cause.
Any suggestions would be greatly apprieciated.

Did you try to move the transmission pulley in both directions?

If it moves freely then the problem is the motor.

If it does not then the problem is the transmission.

Gene.

P.S. The model number you posted is incorrect.

Yup, you're right the model number was a typo.
I turned the basket counter clockwise with ease, didn't go clockwise however.
What's the next step if it's a tranny problem?:(

Gene,

Actually, when I turn the drum clockwise and really force it, it squels and then it's hard to get it to rotate the other way again.

I also noticed that when I move the drum there is a sloshing sound even though I have disconnected the pump hoses and have had the whole drum assembly laying on it's side. What the..???
