Hi,

I have very elementary knowledge about how fridges work.

I got this gigantic (maybe 20+ cu. ft. by the looks of it, but I don't know), ancient chest freezer from craigslist. The freezer's plugged into an analog temperature controller that is set to maintain the temperature inside at 65 F.

The first night I hooked it up, it sounded fine. The temperature warning light was flashing. I pressed it, but nothing happened. The freezer was producing a very loud, steady hum, so I was sure it was doing something. But when I checked on it the next day, there was an alarm sounding from the freezer. The temperature warning light was flashing as before. There were some sounds coming from the freezer, but nothing compared to before.

In my humble opinion, I got screwed over, the compressor stopped working, and only the motor was continuing to run.

bump. Can anyone help me at least diagnose the problem? It would be very helpful in trying to solve it myself or making sure somebody that I hire is telling me the truth.

65 deg. F is too hot for a freezer. This may explain the temp alarm. Try setting it to a more appropriate temperature, like zero, and see what happens.

Hey magician,

I forgot to mention that there was no sign of cooling when I checked on the freezer.
I have ran the freezer without the temperature controller, but there is no activity in the freezer. I can only hear some small components making a bit of noise.
Please anybody, any ideas are deeply appreciated. I bought all this beer brewing equipment and I can't use it until I have something to control the temperature with.

Do you hear the compressor start when you plug it in?
