My GE dryer won't shut off if I try to dry a load of clothes on Cotton or Permanent Press cycles. The dryer does work on the 'timed dry' cycle. If I try to dry a load on the Cotton or Permanent press cycles, the drum turns, it heats up, but the timer never advances. The cycle will run and eventually dry the clothes, but won't turn off. I have to turn it off manually and the timer remains in the initial position from when I started the cycle.

I have replaced the timer and this did not fix the problem. Strangely enough, I know others who have had the same problem with GE dryers. Any ideas?
