If I understand you correctly, you didn’t find a bad resistor. If that is correct I wouldn’t even worry about the fan.

If that is correct I wouldn’t even worry about the fan. to put it in another way, there was a small bulge or bubble in the tire. it wasn't flat or blown, and the cords weren't showing, but it was time to change it or get a new one to be safe anyway. the board was discolored to a point you knew there was a problem, and the resistor was discolored more than enough to change the color of it, and the value bands. my opinion is that it would have completely gone out soon to the point of destruction soon anyway. as for the capacitors, same. a bulging top means they were short for this world too. something caused this, and it it is probably a good idea to at least test the remainder of the system. I just need to find out how.

I have assembled the unit, installed the REPAIRED main board, as per specs above. I hooked it into power. the fridge/freezer took about 3 or 5 hours to cool to -0 in the freezer section, and +37 in the refrigerated section (ambient shop temp is 80f. I work on cars in it normally). I had the freezer set on 1 and the fridge set on the number 2 setting. after it dropped temp, and turned off, I inspected the resistor and capacitors, as well as the general condition of the board. it seems to be fine. I had to open and close the fridge side a few times to get the evap fan to turn on, and it finally did. after several more minutes, the compressor came on. I am still waiting to see if anything else changes. at this point, I can call it a successful fix. I will have the unit here for one more week, just to make sure it holds. during the week, I will let you know if it goes bad. at the end of the week, I will try to remember to give this a pass or fail. so far, it looks very promising. I just wish the temp controls were a bit less sensitive. #1 setting brings the freeze to -0 and the fridge is a chilly 37 or just under with #2 setting.
(no test given on the H2o system. I don't have the capacity to check yet, but all the push buttons make the corresponding devices operate)

after monkeying with the settings to get them right, after a week I give the mainboard repair a passing grade. sometimes the fridge will go from +36 to +45 then start cooling again, or go from +33 to +40 before the compressor will run, but all in all, I think we saved the charity a few hundred dollars. thank you for your help. I am sure they will thank me in the morning when they collect it.
