I have a 4 yr old Maytag side by side. It was working gangbusters two days ago and then I noticed water dripping from the freezer. When I unplug it and plug it back in the fan comes on and then I hear a click (relay I presume) and then nothing. The compressor doesn't start. Once it seemed that it was trying to start but nothing. Any help would be appreciated. I did check the recall on the Maytag fridges but this doesn't seem to be the model.

Thanks

I replaced the compressor relay/overload protection and when I plugged it in the compressor seemed to try to work (there was noise from the compressor) but after about 20 seconds there was nothing. I really could use some help on troubleshooting the rest.

Thanks

Plugged it back in and this time the compressor actually kicked in. Am I going crazy? Any guesses if this will last or is this something intermittant?

It appears to be dead again. I hear the compressor trying to kick on regularly but still no cigar. Is it my compressor that is dying? Or is there something else that I can check?

If you replaced the compressor start device with the original factory part, you probably have a bad compressor. Might be worth fixing, but the cost will be between $400 and $600.
