The dryer turns on and goes through its cycle but the cloths are not dried and there is no indication that the burner turned on. How do you get the front panel off to see if the burner is igniting?

Remove the plug (#39 on the diagram) and look if the igniter glows at the start up.

If it does but the flame does not ignite then the problem most likely is a bad gas valve coils.

If it does not then you have to perform the troubleshooting as described in one of our previous posts: http://forum.appliancepartspros...3-no-heat-gas-dryer.html and post the results.

Hi Gene, thanks for your previous reply. I took the front panel off and removed the drum. I cleaned out the base and checked the continuity across the main and secondary coils. The resistence was within the range that you had listed. I turned on the dryer while the drum was out and the flame came on. I tried it a couple of times and it worked. I put everything back together and used the dryer and the clothes were not dried after the cycle finished. I also checked it again while the dryer was on and after awhile I checked it again and the flame was out. So, the flame is going out during the drying cycle. Any additional advice?
thanks

Make sure the vent line is clean all the way through the vent outlet and the vent hose behind the dryer is not clogged, kinked or twisted.

Hi Gene, thanks for the information. I replaced the primary and secondary coils as you suggested might be the potential problem. It was a very simple repair and it was about $45 to fix. :)

Gene, Maybe you can answer my question with similar issues. I have a Whirlpool Electric Dryer and the timer works and the dryer runs but only cool air. I checked the vent and it has good flow to the outside. I was told it could be the fuse or and the heating element....

thanks for all your help.

The first thing I would do is check if there is 240 VAC at the dryer wall outlet.

You have to have a simple multimeter in order to test a few parts.

What is the complete model number of the dryer?

Hi Gene,

Thanks for getting back to me....the model # WED5300SQ0. My husband replaced the heating element last night ($75. part) and it still blows cold. My next thought and cheaper is to replace the fuse ($20 part) but I'm worried I'm dumping my money away.

If possible, please e-mail me direct dawnate@comcast.net

Thank you,
Dawn

Hi Dawn,

Have you checked for 240 VAC at the dryer wall outlet? While the motor needs only 120 VAC, the heater would not work unless there is 240 VAC. You have to check the voltage and both circuit breakers for the dryer.

The thermal fuse has nothing to do with heating problem, but there are a few parts in the heating circuit which must be checked for continuity.

Here is the wiring sheet for your dryer.
