My pump seems to be dripping via that channel (at right front of pump/motor assembly) that they conveniently provided in case the pump leaks.

I can't figure out how to remove the pump which sits atop the motor. I've removed the 2 clips securing it to the motor, and can remove the hoses, but the pump seems to be attached by some secret alien conspiracy.

I don't want to break things.

Hi Carl

That mysterious, alien force is rust. The pump shaft that fits on the motor shaft is metal, and the motor shaft is metal and when it leaks the rust bonds the two together.

You just have to get the two apart ( I am assuming you have removed the motor with the pump on, if not go ahead and do so) with enough force to break the bond but without breaking anything else. (Not much help is this)

Good luck.

No that's a huge help! Thanks!

But you say I do need to remove the motor too, huh? I was hoping the pump would just slide up and off the motor and out of there.

Try it, but there may not be enough room, and given it is sorta frozen on the motor shaft the better route may be to remove the motor.

It's riiiiiiidiculous! I've removed the motor with great difficulty, but still can't get that pump assembly off. I've used screw drivers to pry, I've used crow bars. I've banged and tapped and pulled and I've swore lots.

I'm tempted to smash the plastic to smithereens just to get at the motor's spindle so I can slip a new pump on, but I'd like to have the old part to help me find a new one. I'm thinking it's this part, but that doesn't seem to include the drip tray beneath it, which if I break it, I'll be toast since I see no reference to availability of a new one.

I'm considering going on strike against myself.

Can you check your model number. The one you posted does not come up. Frigidaire has done some re-engineering and on some of their models. We need to locate the parts for yours, and need the model number to do that.

Thanks

Here's a site which is probably not helpful, but maybe reassuring.

If that does not come up, the site is ********************.com and go to the washer and then Gibson sections. Others have had your problem.

Another suggestion. On the top you have this oval piece of plastic at the center. Try to cut it off, as this will expose the shaft and you can get some rust buster type spray/liquid in there to loosen things up.

Hang in there. I have had this problem on a Whirlpool which has the same configuration and I thought it was welded on. Finally got it off without damage to the motor, but it was a helluva fight.

Ok, cannot get that parts site to come up and post in the message, but now that I have gone back and looked at your messages I see you did find the pump on the APP site.

If it is the piece that shields the motor that you do not see, here it is.

Part number: AP2105978
Part number: AP2105978

so if you need to destroy both the pump and the shield, go ahead.
