My dishwasher is old but has never been run, we hooked it up and it started gushing water out of the side where the hot water goes into the side of the dishwasher. A hose comes from the valve where the copper pipe comes in and attaches to the side of the dishwasher where there is a plastic glued on piece where the water goes into the dishwasher. The plastic attachment piece that is glued on has two slits in it (sopposed to), but water gushes out from there all over the floor. Does anyone have any idea why or how to fix it. Thank you for any help

There are two things that will commonly cause this.

1. One is that mineral deposits have partially clogged the inlet causing flashing (the water to redirect out the vent). Here is how to fix this problem. First remove the black hose then insert a 5/16-drill bit into the hole that the water enters (where you took the hose off). Slowly turn the drill bit to clean the hold.

Do not use a drill just turn it by hand or maybe a pair of pliers.

Also note that you do not need to make the hole bigger this is basiclly just to clean the hole. Don’t over-do-it simply take a small amount of material out at a time, try it and if it still does it do it a little more.

Also do not insert the drill bit more than 1-1/4” into the hole or you will risk punching a whole in the bottom of the funnel.

You can also use a round file to do the same thing.

2. The other thing is that when the factory welded this funnel onto the side of the dishwasher they mounted it too high. Meaning the hold in the dishwasher don’t line up with the hole in the funnel. The only way to fix this is to cut the hole in the dishwasher to match the hole in funnel. You can’t remove the funnel so you will have to do it from the inside of the dishwasher. Careful not to cut the hole too big just cut it to match the hole in the funnel. Hope this helps! Appliance Repair Guide For All Major Home Appliances

Thank you, my husband checked with a pipe cleaner to see if there was anything in it and there was a spiderweb in it from storage. Wouldn't have thought that would plug it up but it works great now and doesn't leak! Thank you!
