Somebody...Anybody,

I have a GE frontload washer that has been leaking. I have found the cause. Evidently, an inkpen found its way into the wash and pierced a hole in the door boot seal. I was going to pay someone to fix it until I found out how much it was going to cost. I know that I am capable of doing the repair myself...Well, at least following some instruction from a professional who is just itching to help me with my problem.

Two things, where is the best place to buy GE parts online and can anyone give me some steps to replacing the boot seal for this particular model (WBVH5100HWW)?

Thanks -

If it is at all possible try to patch the hole rather than replace the boot. It is very difficult to get the boot back on after you have taken it off.

I have used "goop" sealant to repair these, and others have reported success with bycycle tube patches.

Thanks sidfink43. I will certainly try the patch before taking on the boot replacement.

I patched the hole in the boot seal on my GE washer as you suggested and it worked great. It has been 2 weeks now and at least 15 loads of laundry and no leaks. I used a bicycle tube repair kit and the goop. I put one patch disc above and one below the hole and then applied a healthy coat of goop. Maybe a bit of overkill but better safe than sorry! Thanks again for your help.

That's great, not only did you save a fair amount of money you also avoided a very ugly and difficult job. Glad you put in some redundancy, it always helps.
