The dryer is heating and drying clothes, but the Timer does not advance in any mode (Auto-Dry, Timed Heat, Timed Air-Dry. This seems like a timer problem based on other similar threads, but I want to be sure before I sink the money into a Timer.

The timer is driven by a timer motor and it sounds like that has failed, so I would suggest replacing the timer.

Good luck, hope that fixes it.

New developments. The Timer motor is actually spinning. Sometimes the cycle willnow addvance, but not a the rate it is supposed to. For example on timed Dry I set it for 30 minutes. It advances for 20 minutes and then stops. Another time it advanced to stop but ran for 2 1/2 times the setting. Other times it still won't advance. Do you still think it is the Timer.

Thanks,

Dan

Ok, I understand you want to have a little more certainty, so lets do these observations.

1. Have the console off so you can observe the timer and timer motor. When the timer stops in mid cycle, does the timer motor stop also?

2. I assume that when you say it went to stop and then went 2 1/2 times the setting that the timer continued to run. Did the dryer stop and then start again.

3. If you open the door does the dryer stop? If you close it, does the dryer start up again without pressing the push to start switch?

4. Are the problems consistent for each cycle (you seemed to imply they were in the first post, but with the new info check again.

Let's see what you come up with, probably will go with the timer but maybe something else will rear its head.

In response to your questions:

1. When I said that I set it for 30 minutes, it ran the timer down to 10 minutes decrementing the time accurately. The timer stopped decrementing at 10 minutes left on the cycle but the dryer continued to run until we manually stopped it. The dryer did not stop on it's own.

2. The dryer was again set for 30 minutes. What I meant when I said it ran for 2 1/2 times is that it stopped on it's own but took it about 75 minutes to do so when set for 30 minutes. It was decrementing slower that the actual elapsed time, but did stop.

3. When I open the door, the dryer stops and does not restart without hitting the start button after closing the door.

4. The problems are inconsistent for each cycle.

The last 3 times I ran it it did not stop or advance on it's own. Gremlins???

And I forgot to say thanks for responding. Thanks.

Well, the gremlins are in the timer all right. I would take the chance and replace the timer. I think you have done everything you can to narrow it down to the timer, and it is highly likely a new timer will fix the problem.
