The washing machine makes mechanical clicking noise for about 10 seconds at the beginning of the spin cycle. Otherwise the machine works normally. Any ideas?

Possible there is a problem with the clutch. You have to remove the transmission and inspect the clutch. - The clutch assembly Part number: AP3094537

Here is some more background. When the noise started, I inspected the machine and found the transmission leaking fluid. I removed it and replaced the shaft seal and resealed the top cover. The clutch had some oil residue so I wiped it clean with some mineral spirits and reassembled all the parts. The rubber coupling showed some wear, but was intact. The machine made no noise for a few days and then started up again. I disassembled the basket to make sure that there wasn't anything loose in there, but the noise remained. Still think it is the clutch? Tim

Tim,
I would check the motor wiring harness and plug, but the clutch still more suspicious.
