Model # 110.76914690 Uncertain of age because a friend gave me the matching dryer & washer when she moved out of state 3 years ago.
Dryer spins and blows but no heat. I don't know what a repair cost will be but I'm afraid it will be at least half the cost of a new dryer. Sears wants 75.00 just to come and make a diagnosis. Would it be any cheaper to get an individual repair person locally?
I called my son who is handy but he has never done anything with a gas dryer. He is willing to try with a diagram which I do have and I can also find on line.
The question is how do we isolate if the problem is the fuse or the igniter? Or is it just time to replace the dryer and perhaps the washer too depending on their age?
The dryer is blowing strong to the outside of the house and the vent hose is all new shiny foil type which I bought 3 years ago when the dryer was given to me.
Oh, the washer model is 110.26914690 if you think I should just replace both of them. I don't know this age either but knock on wood it is running ok.

Let's talk about your washer first.
Keep it!
You have a direct drive top loader made by Whirlpool for Sears. They work great, and if they do break the repairs are mostly easy and inexpensive. The motors are a real workhorse, they have no belts and they do a nice job washing. This machine will literally last indefinitely with inexpensive repairs.
Now for the Dryer.
Same Advice, Keep it!
Your problem is possibly a thermostat or thermal fuse. These can be checked with a meter and are easy and inexpensive to replace. If they check out the problem is in your gas system, and while I do not work on gas appliances, the repairs are easy. You can search on this Forum and others about how to replace the coils, igniter etc. Again, these are not expensive parts.
If you decide to go ahead and fix it, take the opportunity to clean it out thoroughly, and I do mean thoroughly, including taking off the blower housing and cleaning all through the vent system. Lint buildup is the enemy of your dryer, and the main thing that will kill it if you let it. You might want to replace the belt and idler and support rollers at the same time.
Do all this and you will have a dryer that will give you many years of service.
