My 18" kitchen aid trash compactor (old) won't work. When you turn the key to operate it, the machine just makes a buzzing noise and nothing happens. I've already had to cut the counter top to fix it in the past (the ram got stuck part way down and didn't retract...something was stuck). I'm getting new counter tops and would like to get this working again. Any suggestions would be helpful...I can't picture dropping a cool $1,800 on the new Viking that is 18" to fill the gap in my cabinets.

Have the Superba model that does the same thing. Will sit there and humm lightly when switch is set to compact now. Maybe its a contactor? I'm going to search more and then disassemble some.
