Our fridge is freezing things in the bins and near the back of the unit only. Read the sticky and tried the defrost thing. Seems to work and have hear the noises recently. The diverter door sounds plausable, but some time ago, had an Amana that the insulation betwwen freezer and fridge got sopping wet and froze causing some things like this to happen. Was due to the defrost, but the drain was freezing up. Is there a chance something like this is happening again with this model, or is this something else. The remainder of the fridge seems warm. I am beginning to hate Amana. Was not to hard to fix last time, but this may not be the same. Damper door partly open diverting all the cold to the back and the bins some how? This just does not seem to fit the regualr lits of complaints. How can it be both in the fridge??
This Amana is a Bottom Freezer. Does anyone know why this may be happening?? I really need some help with this guys and gals. It does seem to be colder in the fridge now. is it possible that the defrost is not working long enough to remove all the build up? Should I shut it down and let it completely warm then restart? I am not sure that the defrost will stop the freezing in the vegetable bins, but it is a start.

If the temperature in the refrigerator is higher than it suppose to be then probably the damper control does not work properly. Check the damper control by the temperatures as described in the Tech sheet. Also check all air channels.

Here are the breakdown diagrams and Replacement parts for AMANA BR22V1W | AppliancePartsPros.com

Gene,
Dumb question perhaps. How can it be colder in the bins(Freezing veggies), than in the fridge? They are in the same compartment.

It depends on how far they are from the cold air inlet. This is the coldest are in the refrigerator. Temperature in the fresh food compartment is different on different levels.

Gene,
The damper appears to be working. Higher numbers give higher flow of cold air(Good flow) but not sure if that regulates temperature within the fridge as it should. (Take out and put in warm and ice water to see if damper position changes??? I assume it is a bi-metalic spring just like a thermostat)

The bins are at the bottom of the fridge(closest to the freezer) which if fed separately from the cooling system, would be the closest to it. What regulates their temperature? The meat bin is up about 4 inches or so, and does not seem to have this problem.

The veggie bins are set to high humidity, as I would think that would not allow a lot of air flow from below. I think we have tried it both extremes to no avail. Still freezes.

I think the fridge problem being warm is more due to us trying stopping the freezing in the bins. Set on 3 of a scale that goes to I think 8. Certianly will go colder, just freezes the veggies more.

Check how cold is the floor in the fresh food compartment. Possible the temperature insulation between the compartments has gone bad. If this the case then it's not repairable.

Gene,
Does not seem to be any colder compared to other surfaces. I see that there is a vent or outlet right behind the bin. Is that temperature controlled?
Will checking the damper as I described work? Perhaps it is not "controlling temperature" even though it is moving with the dial adjustment?

Bill,

It is very hard to diagnose a such problem remotely. Looks like you are on the right track but unfortunately I'm not able to help you as much as I wish.
