Water is cold during the wash and rinse cycle. Water will not drain from the tub, so when cycle is complete the dishwasher is full of water.

If the water in the dishwasher is cold, your dishwasher is hooked up to the cold water pipe instead of the hot water, the heater in the dishwasher is not on during the wash cycle, hot water coming in the dishwasher is usually a little over 100 degrees,on some models with--sanitizer--settings it might ask for about 140 degrees, in this situation the heater will turn on and further heat the water to the desired degree before the wash begins----
The water will not drain, this can be caused by a blocked drain,or a new disposal installed.

The dishwasher has been installed and working fine for almost 5 years, so the hot and cold water hookups are correct. I checked for a clogged drain first thing. I though this was a site for homeowners to air their appliance issues or problems and receive help or suggestions with repairs.

Celeste, as Ripleys so correctly pointed out in your other question, it helps to be a little polite when asking for help, especially since it's free. Both Fyxer and Ripley had posted good explanations and solutions to both your dishwasher and cooktop problems and gave you ideas on what to check. It is pretty difficult to diagnose an appliance repair problem over the internet, and a lot depends on the information provided by the person asking the question. Very often you would be given several things to check in order to isolate the cause of the problem and you may have to communicate back and forth with the person helping you in doing so. So what I'm saying is, a little patience, politeness, and understanding goes a long way... if you are truly looking for help that is.
