Hello!

This morning, when I turned on the oven (to toast a bagel,if you wanted to know), it made this fizzling (shorting out)sound, and sparks flew out of the edges of the oven. I turned it off, unplugged it, looked inside, and found a little flaming blob on the bottom element. After the smoke cleared, I touched the little blob, and have decided that it is probably melted metal.

Is this a typical element burn-out sequence, or a symptom of something more -sinister-, and I should scrap the entire unit?

Thanks in advance,

MaryM

What you saw is a typical element failure. Get yourself a new element, turn the power off and remove the screws from the front element plate, pull it out carfully so you don't snag the wiring and replace it. Quick fix and you will be back to toasted bagels very soon.
