I just purchased this GE electric dryer used. It works fine. But the lint trap (the thing your pull out and clean after each load) is missing. It had been used (a lot, I gather) without the lint filter.
I've ordered a replacement, so that's no problem.
But my question is this: Is there anything special I need to do based on the fact that the dryer has been used without the lint filter? I realize that the dryer's lifespan my be affected, and I'll just live with that as long as it keeps working.
But I wanted to make sure there's no safety hazard, or if there's anything in the dryer that needs to be taken apart and cleaned or anything.
Thanks.

I would pull the front panel and clean the lint out of the blower housing. Lack of a filter will clog this up and the house ducting.

Don't forget to also thoroughly remove lint from the motor and heating element.

Thanks for the good advice. I'll take off the front panel (doesn't seem too hard, from what I've read) and clean out everything I can get to.
