On the motor, directly next to the pulley for the belt, is a small white cone shaped piece of plastic. Mine melted off the motor. I suspect my drum got stuck somehow and the pulley spun on the belt. The belt burned in two and this plastic piece melted off the motor.
A. What does that part do? It looks like it does nothing.
B. Can I run without it?
C. Can it be replaced or do I have to buy the entire motor?

This cone prevents the belt from slipping onto the motor. It comes with the motor and you can not buy it separate. You can try to run the dryer without it. In the worst case you will loose the belt.
