I push the start button on my dryer and all it does is hum. I held the door switch and give the basket a nudge and it takes right off I looked to see if any thing was binding but I didn't see anything and after you shut it off it goes right back to the same. where you have to give it that little help to get it to move, any ideas could it be the motor going bad?

Sometimes a piece of lint will get in between the contacts of the switch in the motor causing this problem. There is a decent chance that blowing the motor out with compressed air and vacuuming it out will fix it. This will not always work but it is worth a try. If it doesn’t work you will have to replace the motor. Clothes Dryer Repair Guide

Thanks so much. I replaced my broken belt and had blow out all the dust, put it back together and got the hum when I presssed start. I must have blown some dust into the motor contacts or had knocked one loose. Another cleaning and contact wiggling and it it is working again.

Thank you.
