I came home yesterday from a short errand and my washing machine had run full cycle and stopped. Still, there was a humming noise, not too loud, coming from the timer motor area. I pushed the timer knob in and it stopped. Later, I went to wash a load of clothes and when I reset the timer knob, nothing happened. There was still a slight humming type noise, but no filling, etc from the washer.

I just read the washer timer thread here and I have the instructions for checking the voltage across the timer. I'm assumning this is the way to go for my situation also.

The washer is 14 years old and has never given me a problem except for a replacement of the agitator ratchet pieces (can't remember the correct nomenclature for those things). It's been a great machine. Not sure what the timers cost (or if that is the problem), but it they aren't really expensive, I'd love to get a few more years service from it.

Am I headed in the right direction?

Thanks in advance.

Post model number yours may be different from the one on the other thread.

If you are talking about the thread I think you are talking about it didn’t turn out to be the timer and the timers give vary little trouble. Clothes Washer Repair Guide

The model # is 110.92573210.

I can't get the washer to do anything in any posiition on the dial. No fill, no drain, no spin, It just has a humming noise.

The thread I'm referring to is "Washing machine timer" posted by betthinks.

Thanks.

Yea, that is the thread I was thinking about. Recheck that model number it isn’t right (comes up as a dryer) but I am not sure I know where to find a wiring diagram for Kenmore. I wouldn’t think your timer would be like bethinks’ timer. There are so many different ones, I was looking at a wiring diagram for that particular model when I wrote that.

I would recommend checking for loose connections and the water level switch.

I double checked the model # and it is 110.92573210.

Had a little more time to mess with the washer and found that it would fill on everything but the cold wash settings. That's what it was set on, and I didn't think to check the others. I swapped the hot and cold lines and ran a load of laundry with no other problems, so I guess I have a bad solenoid on the cold water side of the valve.

Looks like part number 868761 will do the trick?

Am I on the right track or am I missing something?

Thanks.

Yes, it sounds like the water valve is bad. But make sure it is not just the strainers clogged. There should be one in the fill hose.
