I have an 8-year old Whirpool refrigerator. The icemaker is real slow. It dumps ice maybe once a day. The cubes that it does dump are fine and everything is cold. It seems to do better if I go by and flip the little wire bail up and down every so often.

Oh yeah, I did replace the water filter after this started with no effect.

Flipping the little ice bail wire is probably finishing making a switch which should be made when the bail returns to the down position after dumping ice. If you're handy with things you can probably repositions the switch or wire so it will make. It has to be just right because if it's too much it won't cut off when it's at the top.

Any guidance on adjusting that would be appreciated.

When it happened to mine I took the ice maker out for better access and took the plastic end cover off and looked at where the wire bail goes in and what it moved when it was moved. There was a metal contact which I could slightly bend to make it move more so it would make contact when the wire came down.

look at it close and watch the movement and you can figure it out.

Hi, I have a Whirlpool side by side model ec3jhaxrsoo. I have installed a new icemaker and it has only produced 3 trays in 48 hours. What is the normal cycle time for making ice? Only three trays in 48 hours is not much. My ice maker has no wire but has laser switch. What could be wrong, I think my repairman does not know what he is doing????
