if anyone can help i would be very appreciative i have a Kenmore coldspot model #106.53594300 that will not cool when i plug it in everything works fine the lights come on the fan down by the compressor works i do not hear the compressor kick on though from what i have read i should hear a click i don't hear anything and the compressor stays cold it doesn't get warm at all what i call the coils that i think are actually the condenser don't get warm either my stepfather said to try and find the defrost timer but i don't see it in the front when i took off the grill or in the back when i took off the panel back there so i am stumped the last thing i could think of is i need to replace the start device for the compressor part #PS993073 but i figured i would get an expert opinion first thank you guys in advance for your help

Yes, you need to check the relay. Refrigerator Repair Guide: How To Test the Compressor Relay - ACME HOW TO.com

You don't have a defrost timer, you have an adaptive defrost control instead. It's not stuck in the defrost cycle as the fan is still running

thank you very much woodchuckie for your quick and helpful response i went ahead and pulled everything off the compressor what i have are two things a black box which i am to understand is the overload and a half white and half beige colored box that come apart and inside were all the connections and what not the white and beige box connected directly to the compressor and the black box then connected to the outside of the white and beige box and all of that was held on with a thin piece of metal acting sorta like a spring inside the white and beige box something has burned up there were alot of broken pieces of what i am used to calling pop metal or something like that is the only thing i saw that was broken but i want to go ahead and replace the entire white and beige box as i broke part of the plastic housing when i opened it up i need to know what part that is is it the relay because i am looking at a schematic online for my fridge and i don't see it on there if it helps here is the link to the schematic i am looking at http://www.********************...pe=Appliance&Mark=11 just click the image to blow it up and i am looking at the top left hand corner at numbers 12 13 and 15 not sure about 38 it is confusing me a little as i think it is showing the parts inside the white and beige box and they don't really look like it but that could just be the drawing i don't know but again any help would be great also do i need to replace the overload as well thanks again for your fast response on my first post your the man

yeah that schematic is pretty much the same i am thinking #17 is my black box its saying its the capacitor so i am assuming the white and beige box is #12 with the guts being #'s 13 and 16 my question is if i buy this
Start-device, combination (start relay and overload) for production compressor only

Part # 8201786

will it cover me on everything that i might need to replace assuming there is nothing else wrong? as always you are the man and give very quick responses thank you very much

this sounds like my part in this forum it has the shards inside the white and beige box with the two clips someone said is was the resistor that blew i have no idea how long this has been blown the compressor doesn't even kick on or get hot like these other people are saying theirs is i hope the compressor didn't blow up too

That is the purpose of these parts, to protect the compressor from overload and to start it. It should be ok.
